New England is known for its quaint, quirky villages, and Jackson, New Hampshire is no exception. With a long history, dating back to the 1770s and postcard scenery, Jackson could be the dictionary definition of a New England town. Early settlers poured in throughout the late 18th and early 19th century, attracted by good farmland and the picturesque White Mountains.
The area has almost always attracted tourists, especially when the White Mountain school of artists flocked to the region to capture the local landscapes. While Jackson was slower than other villages to become a full-fledged resort town, it was the artists of this school who really put the town on the map.
Parts of the Christmas Farm Inn date back to Jackson’s early heritage. Though it wasn’t originally an inn, the Saltbox was probably built in 1778 by the Rufus Pinham family, as their home on the farm. The main building of the Christmas Farm Inn dates back to 1786 when the family needed a larger home. The red house was even used as the Jackson jail at one time! The farm eventually passed to new owners, namely Case B. Perkins who converted the buildings to an inn in 1883. Ever since, the property has served the area’s many visitors as a quality New Hampshire hotel.
For over 130 years Christmas Farm Inn has hosted tourists eager to enjoy Jackson’s famous Honeymoon Bridge, the Wildcat River, and the surrounding mountains where hiking and skiing are year round fun. Today’s visitors can see many of the early Jackson buildings that have survived fires, change, and age over the years, in addition to the village’s many new businesses and structures. That’s the wonderful thing about visiting somewhere with so much history—you can see that legacy all around you while enjoying the area’s many contemporary attractions like Storyland, Santa’s Village, and Cranmore’s Mountain Coaster!
Next time you visit Jackson, stay at the Christmas Farm Inn and find a little bit of yesteryear peeking out around every corner! You'll discover why people have been making Jackson their New Hampshire travel destination for over a hundred years, and why Christmas Farm Inn has long been a favorite resort!
You may know of The Chef's Plate, a weekly half-hour show that features local chefs from all over New Hampshire who will be rpreparing favorite recipes. You can catch the show on WBIN-TV and NH Public Access. It's a wonderful way to learn about some of the best places to eat in the state, and because of that we're super proud to have Chef Stan and the Christmas Farm Inn restaurant featured! After all, this is one New Hampshire B&B that offers more meals than just breakfast!
We were recently one of a few White Mountain area restaurants visited by Helen of Chef's Plate, who got to try a variety of dishes. The Prince Edward Island mussels steamed in a white wine sauce of tomatoes, garlic, red chili flakes and chorizo gets rave reviews, as does the Crispy Calimari seasoned with Chinese five spice and Szechuan peppercorns atop a seaweed salad.
Moving in from the sea, there is the Green Apple Bourbon Strip Steak, a delicious 12 oz NY strip steak char-broiled and served with a green apple bourbon demiglas. The Braised Lamb Shank is always a favorite, as is the best-selling Maple Pecan Salmon! Helen also got to try the suburb Oven-Roasted Tuscan Haddock baked with creamy artichoke, roasted tomato, and spinach topping. For dessert they sampeld the Maple Crème Brulee and the famous Chocolate Bag,
Helen was impressed with Chef's Stan's flare for presentation as well as his dedication to seasonal menu changes and inventive cocktails like the Morning Glory Martini with pineapple, organge juice, and guava with Vodka, Rum, and Brandy.
In addition to sampling the food, Helen got a tour of the Christmas Farm Inn property and spa, inclduing the many diffrent types of rooms and the fantastic Carriage House Suites. Sandra also took her on a tour to the AVEDA concept spa. The products are all based on sustainable, organic sourced ingredients, similar to the philosophy of the restaurant's seasonal items.
We're so glad to have shared our New Hampshire Inn with Helen and the Chef's Plate team! With so many delicious dishes included in the video, it's almost impossible to not have your mouth watering by the end. Don't prolong your hunger-- come to Christmas Farm Inn for dinner soon and try something spectacular for yourself! You'll see why we're one of New Hampshire's best travel destinations!

The Christmas Farm Inn & Spa is part of The Valley Originals, a group of locally owned and operated restaurants in the Mount Washington Valley.
We display the group’s yellow flag with a fork and a plate. When you see the flag at a business, you know the owners want to nurture and promote independent restaurants.
We believe that good food is essential to a healthy mind, body and soul. That’s why we offer a menu of freshly prepared, authentic cuisine incorporating natural and organic ingredients, meats and produce that naturally looks great and tastes great.
We source available products locally and regionally, and work with quality purveyors to ensure farm-to-table quality and freshness throughout the year. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available, and we can cater to most dietary requests. See our daily specials and enjoy the taste of real food made from scratch and cooked fresh. We do not add MSG or artificial flavor enhancers in our food.
Another good thing about the Valley Originals is that it supports local organizations, charities and activities, so dining with a Valley Originals member restaurant not only means great food and service, but also support for good causes here in the area. All members are involved in the community effort. The Valley Originals gave $172,000 back to non-profit organizations in 2012 alone.Written by Steven Stiefel
